How to get to the port of Civitavecchia

The port of Civitavecchia (Civitavecchia) is located about 100 kilometers from Rome, most of the liners making cruises in Italy call at it.

Getting to Civitavecchia is relatively simple, but when planning, you need to consider the features of Italian transport. To be late to your ship is extremely disappointing. Today we will learn how to independently get to the port from Rome. Consider all relevant methods:

From rome

From Rome to Civitavecchia can be reached by bus, regional train or taxi. I advise a bus or transfer, and the train should be considered last.

By bus for 10 euros

There are direct buses from the port to Termini Station (Termini) for 10 euros. The number of seats is limited, tickets must be booked in advance at the online ticket offices on tiquets.com. - it will take literally a minute.

The route and schedule are as follows:

  1. Civitavecchia (departure at 09:00 and 09:30) - Vatican (arrival at 10:00 and 10:30) - Termini station (arrival at 10:15 and 10:45);
  2. Termini Station (departure at 15:30 and 16:00) - Vatican City (15:45 and 16:15) - Civitevecchia - (arrival at 16:45 and 17:15).

The bus has free Wi-Fi and it arrives directly to the cruise ship boarding terminal. For boarding the bus it is enough to show the reservation code to the driver from the phone or any electronic device, there is no need to print a ticket, 21 century.

By train for 5 euros

  • Travel time: from 2 hours to 4 hours (depending on the starting place)

Traveling to Civitavecchia by regional train from Rome is the most economical way, a ticket costs 5 euros, but take into account the possible surprises of Italian railways. We have transport strikes about three times a month, you should not be afraid of them, but you should not forget about them either.

To get started on the website www.trenitalia.com you need to check the timetable and see if the train option is right for you.

Trains leave from Termini Station (Roma Termini), which means that if you do not live in a hotel nearby, you will have to go to the station by metro or bus. Also keep in mind that from the railway station in Civitavecchia to the port you will have to walk about 700 meters (10 minutes) on foot - with suitcases this is not always convenient. It is not necessary to buy a ticket for a regional train in advance, since in most cases they are out of place. If your ship, for example, leaves at 17:00, then you need to leave Rome at least at 13 o’clock in the afternoon. I would leave at all at 12 o’clock.

By taxi for 120 euros

  • Travel time: 1 hour 15 minutes.

The most expensive but fast way. It is worth considering if you are not going on a cruise alone. By taxi from the zone of the walls of Aurelian to the port of Civitavecchia, a fixed rate of 120 euros should apply, if you sit in the official parking lot. In practice, it happens in different ways - taxi drivers may require surcharge for luggage, for the 4th passenger, for a call to the hotel.

About the features of Roman taxi drivers I wrote here.

Transfer for 115 euros

Travel time: 1 hour 15 minutes.

An excellent alternative to taxi drivers is to order a transfer in advance. You will be picked up right from the hotel, in a comfortable Mercedes E-class they will be delivered to the port with a breeze - this is convenient, reliable and even 5 euros cheaper. Plus, for sure, no surprises and surcharges, but you need to plan your trip in at least 24 hours.

We recommend ordering a reliable transfer to the port of Civitavecchia on the website ru.Rome4.us from Sergio, the most reliable Italian in the world.

From Fiumicino Airport

On trains from 11 to 33.5 euros

Travel time: 2.5-3 hours

There is no direct train from Fiumicino Airport to Civitavecchia, you will have to go to Termini by Leonardo Express train for 14 euros, and then change trains. The second option is to take a regional train to Trastevere station for 8 euros and transfer there. Here is a detailed instruction on how to get from Fiumicino to Rome.

This way to get to the port should be considered only if you have a reserve of time, a budget is limited and there is already an experience of traveling by train.

By taxi for 120 euros

Travel time: about an hour.

With taxi drivers from Fiumicino the same story - the price should be fixed at 120 euros. It is better to ask in advance before boarding a car, I recommend 2-3 times whether the fixed price will be accurate. In this case, we advise you to simply book a transfer in advance, from Sergio on a Mercedes for 115 euros and you will be met at the airport with a sign and delivered without surprises on time to the port.

Day Trips

If you sail to the port of Civitavecchia for one day, then it is rational to combine a round-trip transfer with an individual EXCURSION ALL ROME in 3 HOURS. You will be met at the port, taken to Rome, where in 3 hours the Russian-speaking guide will tell and show you the main attractions, advise the restaurant for a delicious dinner and take you back to the departure of the liner. The cost of such a program for 1-4 people will be 450 euros.

I am sure these tips have been useful to you. We will be happy to answer your questions in the comments.

Carnival and Kölsch

The Germans associate Cologne with a fun carnival. In the days of the holiday, the Middle Ages seem to come to life: in fancy dress a la the Middle Ages, cheerful processions, games and fun in the old spirit take place on the wide streets of the city. The roots of the carnival go back to the distant past of the city, as well as the recipe for traditional Cologne beer, brewed by local brewers for centuries.
