Verona Card - how to save money in Verona?

How to save an active and curious tourist in Verona? Verona Card (Verona Card 24H) is an official project of the Italian Ministry of Culture to attract tourists who want to spend a profitable and efficient day in Romeo and Juliet. The card allows you to save tens of euros by visiting the main attractions.

You can buy a card in the official partner sites www.tiqets.com or www.getyourguide.ru. The cost is the same everywhere - 20 euros for 24 hours, so choose which is more convenient for you. I usually buy on tiqets.com, but maybe getyourguide.ru is more suitable for you, as it is also available in Russian.

Let's see what is included in the price of Verona card and is it profitable to buy it?

What is included

  • 10 euros - Arena di Verona (Arena di Verona), works on Monday 13:30 to 19:30, the rest of the week from 08:30 to 19:30. Ticket offices close from 18:30. The Roman amphitheater is located in the center of Piazza Bra (Piazza Bra) is located, was built in the first century AD, during the period that marked the end of the empire of Augustus and the beginning of Claudius. That is, it is older than the Coliseum in Rome, and, by the way, is much better preserved. It is one of the largest amphitheaters in Italy; its elliptical shape provides perfect acoustics from any standing point and allows you to accommodate a large number of spectators.
  • 6 euro - Juliet's House (Casa di Giulietta) at via Cappello 23 is open on Mondays from 13:30 to 19:30, on the rest of the week from 08:30 to 19:30 the last entrance is at 18:45.
    The building, built in the 13th century, has long been the property of the Cappello Cappello family, whose coat of arms is carved in the courtyard's internal arch. The identification of the Capella with the Capulet gave rise to the idea that there stood the House of Juliet, the main character in the tragedy of William Shakespeare "Romeo and Juliet", the beloved youth of Romeo Montecchi Montecchi), with whose family the Capulet were in a long-standing feud. The medieval home, picturesquely restored by Antonio Avena) around the mid-30s of the 20th century, was reserved for temporary exhibitions in the recent past. The building has a beautiful internal brick facade, a Gothic-style portal, three-leaf windows, an external balustrade connecting different parts of the house, and Juliet's famous balcony. In the courtyard is a bronze statue of Juliet by sculptor Nereo Costantini (Nereo Costantini, 1972).
  • 8 euro - Lamberti Tower (Torre dei Lamberti) at via dalla Costa, 2. Open daily from 11:00 to 19:00.
    This is the highest observation deck in Verona, located next to Juliet's balcony. Visitors can reach the stairs by breaking 368 steps along the inner perimeter of the tower, or by a comfortable glass elevator that allows you to admire the architectural beauty of the building. Two bells are installed on the tower: the small one was used to indicate the clock and to warn of a fire, and the large one was the meeting of the city council and the call of the citizens to arms when the city was in danger. According to the official website, torredeilamberti.it: “Climbing to the top of the tower is an unforgettable adventure not to be missed”
  • 4.50 Euro - Teatro Romano Theater of Rome at via Regaste Redentore, 2. Open Monday from 13:30 to 19:30. From Tuesday to Sunday, working hours from 08:30 to 19:30, entry until 18:30. The theater was built on the hills of St. Peter at the end of the first century AD. It was a huge building of impressive grandeur, which stretched from the left bank of the Adige River to the top of the hill and complemented the Roman urban planning system on the right bank of the river. From the cable car you can enjoy views of the Roman Theater. The funicular www.funicolarediverona.it for two euros makes it easy to get to Castel San Pietro, then you can go down the stairs to the river next to the Roman Theater.
  • 4.50 Euro - Archaeological Museum near the Roman Theater.
    In 1923, the Archaeological Museum was opened in the premises of the former monastery of St. Jerome, which was built over the theater at the end of the 15th century. About 600 works of art are exhibited here: sacred inscriptions and tombs, mosaics, sculptures and household items from Verona and the surrounding area.
  • 4.50 euros - the tomb of Juliet (La tomba di Giulietta) at via Luigi da Porto 5. Open on Monday from 13:30 to 19:30, the rest of the days from 08:30 to 19:30, entry until 18:30.According to legend, a sarcophagus was located on this place, in which the bodies of Romeo and Juliet were located, and it naturally became a tourist attraction. Romeo in the third scene of the fifth act says:
    “You will lie in the majestic grave.
    To the grave? No, to the shining chamber.
    Among him lies Juliet
    And this crypt fills with light. ”
  • € 4.50 - The Fresco Museum (Museo degli Affreschi “G. B. Cavalcaselle”) is located next to the tomb of Juliet. It works on Monday from 13:30 to 19:30, the rest of the days from 08:30 to 19:30.
    The museum is located in the building of the former monastery of San Francesco al Corso (S. Francesco al Corso), founded in the 13th 13th century. In the museum, opened in 1973, you can see Renaissance murals transferred from buildings in Verona, as well as a collection of 19th-century sculptures. On the minus the first level is a warehouse of Roman amphorae from the 1st century AD, originating from excavations in the area.
  • 4.50 Euro - Palazzo Pompei at Lungadige Porta Vittoria 9. Built in the middle of the 16th century by architect Michele Sanmicheli. It works on weekdays from 09:00 to 17:00, and on weekends from 14:00 to 18:00.
    The building houses one of Europe's largest natural history museum (Museo Civico di Storia Naturale). The flagship section of the museum is the famous collection of Bolka fossils, which includes samples of more than 250 species of animals and 200 species of vegetarians from the Lessini Mountains 50 kilometers from Verona, which is a clear example of what life was like on Earth 50 million years ago, and how she developed.
  • Unlimited travel in Verona public transport. One trip costs 1.30 euros. For a day you have to use two to four times. We consider at least 2 × 1.30 = 2.60 euros.
The Verona Card 24H is valid 24 hours from the moment of activation, during which you can visit all the attractions listed above in the list for free.

You do not need to be an excellent student in mathematics to appreciate the benefits of a purchase. Even visiting three main attractions - the Arena di Verona, Juliet's house and the Lamberti tower without a map - you will spend 10 + 6 + 8 = 24 euros. More active tourists will save even more.

Card discounts

Also using a discount card you can visit:

  1. Giardino Gardens (Giardino Giusti) - a ticket of 5 euros instead of 10. I personally - the gardens of Giusti, made the greatest impression of everything seen in Verona. Once you find yourself in Giardino Giusty, you will understand what he meant by his phrase "second paradise on earth" the English traveler Thomas Coryate, who was here back in 1611. Recommend;
  2. Museum of Africa (Museo Africano) at vicolo Pozzo, 1 - ticket 3 euros instead of 5;
  3. Miniscalchi-Erizzo collection at via San Mamaso, 2a - ticket 3 euros instead of 5. The museum, which was opened in the 50s of the last century thanks to the last descendant of the family, is located in the heart of Verona in the aristocratic family home. The museum consists of different rooms located on two floors, which store objects collected by more than three centuries by different family members.
